07.29.14 – On 07-28-14 the Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office received a call at 7:36 PM of a boat containing four people that had capsized north of Bel-Air beach.  Upon arrival, Sheriff’s Deputies observed another boater that had stopped and helped the sinking boaters, by pulling the capsized boat, and giving the 4 occupants of the boat a ride back to Bel-Air beach dock.

Once on shore, it was determined that the occupants of the boat, who were not wearing life jackets at the time, were identified as Joel Figueroa-Ramirez age 24, Adrian Reyes age 26, Alfredo Reyes age 24, and Andres Espana, age 24, all of Storm Lake, IA.  The occupants of the boat, left the dock at Bel-Air beach, and after leaving, the boat started take on water from the high waves and started to sink.

Iowa DNR, and Lake Patrol officers also responded to the scene of the incident.

Following further investigation all four occupants of the boat were cited by DNR for not having lifejackets in the boat.

There were no reported injuries by any of the occupants in the investigation was concluded.

07.23.14 – On 07-23-2014 at approximately 3:00pm, the Buena Vista County Communications Center received a 911 call of a man that had been severely injured by a motor vehicle running over him.  Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Deputies, along with Emergency Response units from the Aurelia Fire Department and the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center, responded to the scene at 149 510th Street in rural Alta. 

 

Upon arrival to the scene by Emergency Personnel, it was discovered that the victim had been working on a parked vehicle that was upon on ramps.  While working on the vehicle, the vehicle rolled off the ramps, and struck the victim, injuring him seriously.  The victim, who was identified as 44 year old Patrick Briner, was then transported by ambulance to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center, and then flown by Life Flight to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.  His condition is unknown at this time.

07.21.14 UPDATE  After review of the circumstances and facts of the case by the Buena Vista County Attorney’s Office, Pedro Orozco, age 43 has now been charged with Attempted Murder, a Class B Felony. 

Orozco is currently held in the Buena Vista Co Jail on $50,000 Bond. 

The Victim in this case is still hospitalized.

On July 9, 2014, at approximately 7:46 PM the Buena Vista County 911 Center was contacted by the Spencer Police Department. Spencer Police reported that Clay County Sheriff Deputies had responded to an accident on Highway 71 south of Spencer. While investigating this accident, Deputies discovered that a passenger in the vehicle was suffering from multiple stab wounds, and was being taken to the Spencer Hospital. The victim identified as Chayton Quail, age 19 from Spencer was transported by ambulance to Spencer Hospital and was then later transferred on to a Sioux Falls hospital for surgery.

Further investigation revealed that the stabbing incident had occurred at 310 Thomas St., Sioux Rapids Iowa. Buena Vista County Deputies and the Sioux Rapids Police Department responded to the residence and determined that there were no more injured parties at the residence.

Preliminary investigation indicates that an altercation occurred between the victim and another male suspect at the residence.

The suspect in this incident was gone from the scene upon the arrival of officers. Upon, further investigation a charge of Willful Injury, a Class C Felony was filed against Pedro Orozco, age 43 of Sioux Rapids, IA.

Information early this morning led to the arrest of Orozco by the Osceola County Sheriff's Office. Orozco his being held on bond and will be transferred back to Buena Vista County later today. The investigation is continuing with interviews of witnesses and a search of the crime scene to be conducted.

The condition of victim is unknown at the time of this press release. Investigation is continuing
